It wasn’t the movie itself that changed my life forever.
No, it was a Poltergeist teaser-trailer that came out several months before the movie. It featured stills and a few clips from the film that was coming out that summer, but it also showed interviews with supposed “Paranormal Experts.” They explained what a poltergeist actually was and my young mind was BLOWN. I found the first trailer on Youtube but it’s pretty crude. In fact, think it was taped by some dude sitting in front of his TV.
By the time I actually SAW Poltergeist, I had done months of library research, seeking out EVERYTHING I could find on the subject. It started a love-affair with all-things-paranormal that has lasted my entire life. It has even spilled over to my children, who adore a good ghost story. I remember a long walk to the park one day, when I told my girls the WHOLE Poltergeist story. They both insist that they’re ready to see the movie, but I’m not so sure about that. It still ranks as one of my all time favorites and I swear Poltergeist still scares the poo out of me.
So when I say that Poltergeist ruined my life, I mean that it ruined me in the best possible way.
You can imagine my surprise when I saw that it’s being remade. I rolled my eyes and shook my head at the futility of such a project. I mean, WHY MESS WITH PERFECTION?
Then I saw the trailer. Holy cow. I think I pooped my pants again. Here’s the link, but seriously. Brace yourself.
