Julie Says So: What’s Streaming NOW (5/8)

Did you already binge your way through Upload (if not, get on that)? No worries if so, because there are loads of new time-wasters currently on your TV.

I’m personally most excited about the return of Dead to Me. Season 2 kicks off tonight (Friday May 8th) on Netflix, and picks up the morning after that explosive Season 1 finale. If you haven’t watched this outstanding series (starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini in some of their best work yet) treat yourself to Season 1 before picking up Season 2. You’ll thank me!

Disney+ debuted the latest Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on “Star Wars Day” (which is May the 4th, if you somehow missed that). Now you can finally watch the Star Wars finale that left everyone seething with dissatisfaction (I didn’t think it was that bad though).

Jerry Seinfeld has a new special airing on Netflix called 23 Hours to Kill. It’s his first stand-up special since 1998 but don’t expect a ton of cutting-edge material from those 20-plus years. Seinfeld’s act is essentially the same observational humor. He even does a whole block on Pop-Tarts and frozen orange juice.

If you’ve missed La La Land Director Damian Chazelle, he has a new series premiering on Netflix. It’s called The Eddy and features all the same jazz and romance from the Ryan Gosling-Emma Stone love-story, but this time it’s set in Paris with dangerous criminals in the mix.

And finally, one of my favorite new binges is Spy in the Wild 2, a series from PBS Nature. Animatronic creatures are placed in the wild to spy on animals from hummingbirds to komodo dragons. The results are sweet, informative and sometimes hilarious, like the orangutans’ non-stop flatulence. You can watch Spy in the Wild 2 live on PBS Wednesday nights or stream whole episodes now at PBS.org.
