Infinity War & Kids

Mommy Movie Review: Is “Avengers: Infinity War” OK for Kids?

If your kids are fans of the Marvel universe, they’re probably begging to see the new Avengers: Infinity War. This latest addition to the series is rated PG-13, like most Marvel films, and offers the same amount of violence and profanity we’ve come to expect from them. If your kids have seen any of the other Avengers films, nothing in this one will be new to them.
There is ONE THING about Avengers: Infinity War though, that sets it apart from the others.
***SPOILER-ALERT***
It’s not a big spoiler and doesn’t give away any plot points, but if you don’t want to know ANYTHING about the movie in any way, don’t read any further.

Avengers: Infinity War is profoundly sad in a way I wasn’t expecting. It’s manipulative to the point of being almost mean, and left my kids (10 and 14-years-old) weeping in the back of our car for twenty straight minutes after it ended. This is not an exaggeration. If your kids care about these characters in any way, it will be a tough movie for them to watch, but good luck talking them out of it!
Avengers: Infinity War is also clearly setting up for a phenomenal Part 2 and, in my mind, is one of the most important superhero movies made to date. Yes, your kids will be sad (and you will shed a few tears too) but it’s all leading up to what I suspect will be a fantastic finale. Don’t forget to sit through the credits as well because the bonus scene doesn’t come until the absolute end of the movie. It’s just another cruel trick they’ve played on us!
So pack some tissues, or just some extra popcorn napkins, and settle in for two and a half hours of an emotional roller-coaster like you’ve never ridden before. And don’t be too sad because Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 opens on May 3rd of 2019!
Avengers: Infinity War opens April 27th and you can buy tickets HERE.
