Discussing the Oscars with Krys Boyd on “THINK”

Several months ago, Stephen Becker from KERA reached out to me about being on THINK. He and Chris Vognar from The Dallas Morning News were going to discuss the 2015 Oscar nominees with Krys Boyd and he wondered if I would like to join in. I have TREMENDOUS respect for Stephen and Chris and the girl-crush I have on Krys is boarderline gross, so YES I wanted to join in.   I COULDN’T though because of a stupid work conflict and I can’t tell you how upset I was.

Fortunately, Stephen contacted me about a pre-Oscar chat again and THIS TIME I had no work conflicts to muck it up. If you missed our hour on THINK, here it is.

Wine ‘n Film Critics: HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2 & 2015 Oscar Chat

I saw Hot Tub Time Machine 2 this week with Rebekah Black, Sybil Summers & Richie Whitt and this is our review…sort of. We think that talking about movies is far more fun when you’re drinking a frosty beverage but we DO tend to lose focus. That explains the random gay-porn chat. We DO eventually get around to reviewing the movie though so ENJOY!

Jasmine Sadry & Mr. Mesero’s Damn Sexy Queso

I met Jasmine Sadry 10 years ago when she took over my old position at the Edge in Dallas.

It’s hard to describe how I felt about Jasmine at the time. Is there a word for how you feel when you’re replaced by someone ten years younger and ten times hotter than you? It would have to be a combination of anger and envy, like “Engravy” maybe? Whatever the word is, I was FILLED with it so you can imagine my disappointment when Jasmine ended up being great on the air. She’s also so sweet that no matter HOW hard I’ve tried to dislike her, I simply can’t. Best of all, she has a mouth on her that would embarass the saltiest truck driver and honestly, that’s a direct line to my heart. Continue reading →

My “Fifty Shades of Grey” Review with Gene & Julie/Mix 101.5

I’ve been chatting about movies with Gene & Julie Gates recently, which is wild for MULTIPLE reasons. I’ve known these two since they were just boyfriend-girlfriend (believe it or not, they were not BORN married) and we were all living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They’re doing a morning show in Raleigh, North Carolina now and asked me to join them occasionally. It has been a BLAST! Here’s our segment from this morning. Thanks for having me on, guys!

Fifty Shades of Grey (And a Surprising Amount of Hair)

How you feel about the film version of “Fifty Shades of Grey” will all depend on how you felt about the books.

If you read and enjoyed them, you’ll be happy to know that the movie is actually BETTER. That’s not saying much though. I think I could have written those books after a few wine-coolers with my girlfriends back in high school. The story is ridiculous but in the hands of talented Hollywood screenwriters it becomes polished, a little humorous and the dialogue becomes slightly less hokey (but just slightly).

Voracious “Fifty Shades” readers will enjoy seeing the characters fleshed out on screen but our FAVORITE parts of the books (duh, the sex scenes) have been totally dumbed down. It’s disappointing but book-fans have the benefit of KNOWING what’s happening, even if it’s only implied onscreen. Those who have NOT read the books will be rolling their eyes and wondering when the smut is going to start. Continue reading →

Lucyisms Vol. 2- From The Mouths of Barfing Babes

Lucy was apprehensive when I posted “Lucyisms Vol. 1,” but she ended up being its biggest fan. I think she felt a little famous when friends approached her at school and quoted their favorite lines, like “You play your OWN bongos!”

She even tried CREATING Lucyisms but thankfully realized they sounded goofy when forced. She would spout off something especially strange, then shake her head and say, “No, that was terrible.”

Despite this, Lucy has unintentionally gifted us with some outstanding bon mots recently and I’ve been dying to share them. Then I discovered the NOTES she’s been leaving on my iPhone. Continue reading →

Congrats to Nick & Halie!!!

If you weren’t watching the Today show this morning, you missed two local folks getting engaged on live television. Nick Marino got his girlfriend Halie Gibbs in front of cameras by telling her they were part of a “Couples Who Make a Difference” segment, but we back at home knew the truth. See, Nick called me a few weeks ago to tell me about his plan so when the deed went down, I was sitting in front of my TV & crying like a baby.  Nick was too as he got down on one knee & asked Hailey to marry him. Pretty sweet stuff so if you missed it, just click the link below & get ready for the happy tears!
