Some beautiful things have been said about David Bowie recently, but nothing says more than the way he chose to leave us. He knew the world would be sad to hear he was dying, so David Bowie chose not to tell us. Instead, he made some beautiful music to help with our mourning, and to say THANK YOU for the years of love and support. How incredible is that?
My daughter just discovered David Bowie, which has made his death even more surreal. She found him by way of her first true-love QUEEN and the song Under Pressure. Since then, she’s been picking out Bowie music from films like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Martian, and blasting them on repeat. I think I’ve heard Starman more in the past 2 months than I have in my entire life.
This brings me a bit of peace, knowing that his music will live on and that we, the people who were lucky enough to share the planet with him, will make sure of that. Let’s ensure that from this moment forward, on every day, in every year, in every century, someone will hear David Bowie’s music for the very first time and freak out.
But first, we need to say GOODBYE.
Our friends at the Alamo Drafthouse are planning a David Bowie Video Music Party this Saturday night in Richardson, TX. It’s a Sing-Along, featuring all of your favorite Bowie hits, so you can sing and dance and awkwardly hug the weeping stranger standing next to you. Proceeds will go to FAME, a music education program for kids in Bowie, Maryland. I think David Bowie would approve, so get your tickets by clicking HERE and I’ll see you Saturday!
