Mommy Movie Review: Can Your Kids See “Aquaman”

Director James Wan was not going to let Aquaman be another gazillion-dollar disappointment for DC, so he threw everything he could at this movie.
It has mermaids, not-quite-as-pretty mermen, talking fish-people and a sea-princess who looks almost too much like Ariel. There are also dinosaurs, battle-sharks, a drum-playing octopus, the Kaiju monster from Pacific Rim (for some reason) and I haven’t even gotten to the main characters, yet. You’re left with a mish-mash of every super-hero movie you’ve seen in the past five-years (except this one is underwater), with a little Raiders of the Lost Ark and Flash Gordon thrown in for good measure. It makes for a fun, but cluttered movie that sometimes leaves you wanting just a little more of Aquaman‘s biggest asset: Jason Momoa.
His special quality of winking, let’s-get-a-beer charm is on constant display here, but it gets diluted in the process of turning Momoa into a HERO. He’s the reason I’m giving Aquaman a B-, but you’re probably just wondering what your kids will get from it. Continue reading →

“Julie Says So” Movie Reviews on GOOD MORNING TEXAS (including “Aquaman,” “Mary Poppins Returns” & “Vice”)

I was just on Good Morning Texas, covering all the big movies that will open over Christmas break. This week alone, we’ll see the releases of Aquaman, Welcome to Marwen, Second Act, and Bumblebee. Mary Poppins Returns just opened too, so there are plenty of great new films to check out. I sat down with Jane McGarry to talk about my favorites and cover some films you might not have heard of yet. FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Aquaman” EARLY & FOR FREE

I think Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman might be my new favorite DC superhero. I feel like a straight-up traitor for saying that, since Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is clearly the best hero they’ve cranked out yet. There’s just something about Mamao that I love. No, it’s not because he’s gorgeous…though that helps. It’s because Jason Mamoa really seems like the type of guy who would stick up for the underdog, then hang-out and play drinking games with him. Sure he’s beautiful, but he also seems like a good guy, which is the part I like the most. So, who wants to see Aquaman EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →

Dishing “The 2016 Golden Globes” on GOOD MORNING TEXAS

I joined my friends at Good Morning Texas today, to talk about The 2016 Golden Globes and it was SO MUCH FUN! Seriously, I wish I could get up every morning and talk trash about celebrities with Jeanette Chivvis, Victoria Snee and Jane McGarry. The only thing I would change is the hair, make-up and clothes part because that’s REALLY STRESSFUL. Maybe we could just sit around in bathrobes, with our hair pulled back and clay-masks on our faces. That’s way more my speed!

We started by discussing The Revenant, and all the awards it scored at the Globes. We mentioned Arthur Redcloud from Colleyville, who plays a major role in the movie, and an article about him that ran in Guidelive recently. That was written by my friend Tommy Cummings, and you can read it by clicking HERE. Then watch us drool over Michael Fassbender and fight about Jennifer Lawrence’s cut-out dress by clicking HERE. Can’t wait until the Oscars!

PODCAST: Boozy Movies Reviews “Magic Mike XXL” And Makes It Rain

We were lucky enough to catch an early screening of Magic Mike XXL and to be honest, things got out of hand. There were stacks of fake money and hot guys dancing on boxes, and that was before the movie even started! I was joined by the usual Boozy Movies Film Critics; Rebekah Black, Sybil Summers and Richie Whitt but we also had a Special Guest Critic, Jasmine Sadry from Jagger Mornings on 102.1 the Edge! Here’s what we thought of the movie and well….someone just MIGHT have to turn in their Film-Critic Card.
