There’s so much greatness going on in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Brad Pitt is a stunt-double to Leonardo DiCaprio’s aging movie-star. Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate as the Manson Family starts their murder-spree and, my goodness is that Dakota Fanning as Squeaky Fromme? Quentin Tarantino’s at the helm of it all, so you know this movie will take some unexpected (but hopefully fantastic) turns. So, who wants to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood EARLY and FOR FREE? Are you in the mood for one of those epic WWII pictures that usually come out this time of year? I hope so, because Director Robert Zemeckis (Cast Away, Forrest Gump) is delivering Allied just in time for the holidays. This one stars Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard as an intelligence officer and resistance fighter who connect behind enemy lines. Will their relationship withstand the pressures of war or will they turn on each other? I think the real question here is whether or not YOU will be able to ignore your mixed feelings about Brad Pitt long enough to enjoy Allied. Seriously, what was that all about? It will probably help if you see Allied EARLY and FOR FREE and fortunately, I have passes! Continue reading →
I started a new show this week on TXA 21. It’s called Today with Kandace and is a lifestyle show that features food and fancy stuff to do around North Texas. They asked if I’d like to talk about movies with 2001 Miss USA Kandace Krueger, and I said HECK YEAH!
Today with Kandace is prerecorded so I won’t review new movies for them, like I usually do. This will be more of a Coming Soon segment, followed by a chat about new DVDs and good films to share with your kids. This week, we covered The Big Short and Goosebumps on DVD, as well as one I’m crazy excited about, the new Ghostbusters. Check out Today with Kandace on TXA 21, weekdays at 8:30am and big thanks to Kandace for having me on! You can find the show’s website by clicking HERE.
The 2016 Oscars will air this Sunday at 7:30 Central and the world is can barely contain it’s excitement!
Okay, that’s not really true. Most people are apathetic about this year’s nominees and the #OscarSoWhite controversy threw even more cold water on everything. I thought I’d spice things up with a good old-fashioned Oscars Drinking Game, so we’d have something to do when we weren’t making fun of everyone’s gowns and make-up choices. Before we get good and drunk though, I think we should address the old, white elephant in the room with our very first rule.
RULE #1: Take a shot of plain water anytime emcee Chris Rock makes a joke about the lack of diversity amongst Oscar voters and nominees. I suspect he’ll be at it all night, so this would be a good opportunity to hydrate. Continue reading →
I joined my friends at Good Morning Texas today, to talk about The 2016 Golden Globes and it was SO MUCH FUN! Seriously, I wish I could get up every morning and talk trash about celebrities with Jeanette Chivvis, Victoria Snee and Jane McGarry. The only thing I would change is the hair, make-up and clothes part because that’s REALLY STRESSFUL. Maybe we could just sit around in bathrobes, with our hair pulled back and clay-masks on our faces. That’s way more my speed!
We started by discussing The Revenant, and all the awards it scored at the Globes. We mentioned Arthur Redcloud from Colleyville, who plays a major role in the movie, and an article about him that ran in Guidelive recently. That was written by my friend Tommy Cummings, and you can read it by clicking HERE. Then watch us drool over Michael Fassbender and fight about Jennifer Lawrence’s cut-out dress by clicking HERE. Can’t wait until the Oscars!
Man, that was gross.
I mean…seriously, just awful.
I’m trying to write a review for Angelina Jolie’s new movie By the Sea, but I’m so overwhelmed by how BAD it was, I don’t even know where to start.
By the Sea is written and directed by Angelina Jolie, who also plays the main character, Vanessa. She and her husband, Roland (played by Brad Pitt) are dealing with marital issues so they take time off to relax in a small, seaside town. Roland and Vanessa spend the next 2-plus hours bickering, drunk-crying and taunting each other. Yes, 2 HOURS! It’s far too long, and that’s coming from someone who got the start times screwed up and showed up a half-hour into the movie. It was dark in the theater so I accidentally sat directly ON another Film Critic, who seemed pretty ticked off by the whole thing. Then again, he might have just been disgusted by the complete narcissism and self-indulgence we were forced to watch onscreen. It was so annoying that I almost screamed out “OH COME ON” multiple times. Continue reading →
I just got the trailer for the movie The Big Short and about peed my pants. Don’t ask questions, just watch this:
OK, I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for any trailer that uses Led Zeppelin but seriously…how great does this movie look? The Big Short will have a limited release starting December 11th and opens wide on December 23rd. It’s based on Michael Lewis’ New York Times #1 Best Seller The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. You can buy it on Amazon by clicking HERE, if you want to read it before the movie comes out. I’ll do everything I can to get free passes for us too. Hey, that’ll be my Christmas present to you!
The trailer for Angelina Jolie’s latest movie By the Sea looks…well, GRIM is an understatement. Not that Jolie (who wrote and directed this AND stars in it with Brad Pitt) likes upbeat material to begin with. She directed Unbroken last year, with all those agonizing torture scenes, and In the Land of Blood and Honey in 2011. She also wrote that one and I really liked it, even though it was also a bummer of collosal proportions. Now we have By the Sea opening November 13th, which might also be a strange form a couple’s therapy for Brangelina. Take a look at the trailer, then please send Angelina Jolie a cute kitten picture or a funny animal video to cheer her up. Maybe the one with the screaming goats?
