Let me just go ahead and admit to being a bit in love with Kate Beckinsale. She’s smart (left Oxford so she could focus on acting), she’s a poet (won awards for poetry she wrote as a child), and she’s a badass mom to a 17-year-old girl. In fact, when Beckinsale was asked about hugging her ex-boyfriend, Michael Sheen’s NEW girlfriend Sarah Silverman, this is what Kate said:

“She’s such a great woman. For your kids, you want obviously to be the best parent you can possibly be, but it’s really important that — especially girls — have other women in their lives that aren’t you that also bring to the table intelligence and wit and balls and all that stuff.”

Amen to THAT!

Kate is starring in the new movie Love & Friendship, which is based on a novel Jane Austen wrote when she was only 20. In fact, it wasn’t even published until after her death. In it, Beckinsale plays the devious Lady Susan, who manipulates society to ensure a proper marriage for her daughter and to pad her finances. Sooo Austen, isn’t it? Love and Friendship also has film critics breathlessly giggling over how captivating, witty and charming it is. All those descriptive words that only film critics use, and guess who has free passes?
