It’s been a while since we’ve had a straight-up Kids’ Flick to talk about, and Show Dogs definitely fits the bill. This one stars Chris “Ludacris” Bridges as a police dog who has to go undercover at a dog show to stop a bad guy. Will Arnett also stars, along with some pretty high-powered voice-talent, including Stanley Tucci, Alan Cumming, Shaquille O’Neal and RuPaul. If you’d like to take your kids to a Saturday screening of Show Dogs, Continue reading →
My husband and I have been together for over 20 years, and during that time, we’ve developed our own language. It’s the same English you’re familiar with, but peppered with film, TV and other cultural references from the past two decades. Some movies or TV shows get more play than others (specifically Inglourious Basterds, Fargo, Dumb and Dumber and both volumes of Kill Bill) but nothing gets quoted as much as the first Super Troopers. We probably work in “Meow” or “He can’t pull over any further” weekly, and if we order a drink, it’s always a “liter of Cola.” I even caught our daughters chugging syrup recently, and checked our DVDs to see if they’d been watching Super Troopers.
So, needless to say, we’re pretty pumped about Super Troopers 2. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that I don’t even care if this movie sucks. It’s like hanging out with your old college buddy, who makes you laugh just as much as he embarrasses you. If you agree and would like to see Super Troopers 2 EARLY and FOR FREE, Continue reading →
Honestly, the first time I saw the trailer for Dwayne Johnson’s new movie Rampage, I thought it was a joke. I mean, The Rock has a pet gorilla that goes radioactive and starts destroying a city? Then a giant, flying werewolf gets involved and the only person who can save us is, of course, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? It just SOUNDS like something from Saturday Night Light, right? But I felt the same way about San Andreas when I saw the trailer, and I ended up liking that movie. I also rolled my eyes so hard it hurt when I saw The Rock in the new Jumanji trailer, and I kind of loved that one. So who knows? Maybe Rampage will end up being fantastic, but we should probably see it FOR FREE, just in case. Continue reading →
There’s something about this movie that bums me out profoundly. Amy Schumer stars in I Feel Pretty, about a woman who hits her head and starts believing she’s the most beautiful and capable person in the world. She, in turn, finds the happiness and success she’s always dreamed of, but what will happen when she finds out her appearance never changed? If you’d like to know what happens next, Continue reading →
Before we discuss John Krasinski’s new film A Quiet Place, we should all take a minute to revisit Jim Halpert.
Remember how hard we fell for Jim and how jealous we were of Pam when they finally hooked up?
And straight guys can stop acting like they don’t know what I’m talking about. You loved Jim on The Office too and, if you’ve forgotten just how much, you need to watch the video below.
Well, I just fell down that rabbit hole and spent the last hour watching old Jim & Dwight clips on YouTube.
Anyhow, Jim…I mean John grew up and eventually got married to actress Emily Blunt, who is equally awesome and crush-worthy. They have two children but even cooler (for us at least), they’re now making movies together. And since it’s John-Freaking-Krasinski and Emily-G’damn-Blunt, they’re not making cheesy, Hallmark love stories.
No, they’re making smart, SCARY movies like A Quiet Place.

If you aren’t excited about Ready Player One, I don’t even know what to say.
It’s directed by Steven Spielberg and is based on the popular novel by Austin’s own Ernest Cline. It stars Texan Tye Sheridan as a kid who has to save a virtual-reality world that’s drenched in ’80’s pop-culture. That means you should watch for references from Back to the Future to The A-Team to those awesome flowerpot hats that Devo wore. If you’re still not excited, then you probably shouldn’t bother with these passes to see Ready Player One EARLY and FOR FREE. Continue reading →
Have you noticed how many bad-ass women there are in movies right now? I’d hate to call it a TREND because I don’t want to see it go away, but I think Wonder Woman might have shaken movies execs awake. Since then, we’ve seen Charlize Theron play a lady-John Wick in Atomic Blonde, Tessa Thompson as a Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, and ALL the women of Black Panther kick tremendous ass. That’s why it seems highly appropriate to introduce Alicia Vikander as our new Laura Croft in Tomb Raider. Vikander is tiny, but she wanted to be taken seriously in the role of video-adventurer so she bulked up with weight training and performed her own stunts. See? Total bad-ass! So, do you want to see the new Tomb Raider EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
I promise I’ll get around to talking about Love, Simon in just a minute. First though, I want to talk about this new Netflix show that my kids and I can’t get enough of. It’s Queer Eye, which is an updated version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy from 2003. I didn’t expect to like this new cast as much as the original, but I’ll be damned if they don’t have me and my daughters happy-crying on nightly basis. In fact, we were watching last night when they helped a young man who wanted to come out to a family member (apparently they don’t just help straight guys these days). In a show of solidarity, each of the Queer Eye hosts talked about their own difficulties coming out to friends and family. It was incredible, imagining that these confident, sparkling men could ever be insecure or scared. Once again, I was crying but it also made me especially excited about Love, Simon. This movie tells the story of a high-school boy (Nick Robinson from Jurassic World and The Kings of Summer) who struggles to share his long-held secret, and I think the Queer Eye guys would love it! If you would love it too, Continue reading →
Free Screenings are great and all, but a Free Screening with the movie’s STARS in attendance are the best kind! Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger (yeah, his son) are coming to Dallas to promote their new movie Midnight Sun and you could be there! Grab passes to this special screening Continue reading →
Look, I’m going to be completely honest with you.
I’m not sure about Thoroughbreds. I don’t know how I feel about giving away passes to a movie featuring angry, gun-toting kids. Especially with the way the world looks right now. I don’t want to promote anything that glorifies violence, but I also realize that’s exactly what most movies do.
So how do I handle this?
I guess I’ll just let you decide for yourselves.
Thoroughbreds stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke as teenagers who concoct a plan to rid the world of their greatest problem; an evil stepfather. It looks like a combination of Heathers and my current favorite Netflix show, The End of the F***ing World. Those are violent as well, but have deeper messages about the way we torment each other and finding comfort in someone who’s just as messed up as you. I’m hoping that’s the category Thoroughbreds falls into.
So, who wants to see Thoroughbreds EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
