Those of us who were sad when Melissa McCarthy didn’t get an Oscar nomination for Bridesmaids (yeah, I know it was a stretch) might have our wishes granted this year, thanks to Can You Ever Forgive Me. McCarthy stars as real-life biographer Lee Israel, who gained fame in the 1970’s by writing books about celebrities. She turned to deception when funds ran low and wound up in the middle of her own scandal. Can You Ever Forgive Me is already on this year’s Oscars short-list, with Melissa McCarthy a top pick for Best Actress! Pretty exciting, right? Now you really want to see Can You Ever Forgive Me EARLY and FOR FREE, don’t you? Continue reading →
I’ve watched the trailer for Bad Times at the El Royale a handful of times now and I still can’t figure out what’s going on. It’s hard to worry about a cast that’s THIS GOOD, though. You’ve got Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman and Chris Hemsworth, who’s apparently forgotten how to button a shirt (not complaining, just noting). Dakota Johnson’s in the mix too and, as I’ve stated a few times already, she’s vastly underrated as an actress. Bad Times at the El Royale is also from Writer/Director Drew Goddard, who’s responsible for mind-benders like Cabin in the Woods, Cloverfield and several episodes of Lost. I think this is the type of movie that you learn as little as possible about before seeing it. Even better, how would you like to see it EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
Oh, people always have to gripe about something, and now they’re mad at Venom.
Evidently, the new Marvel flick, starring Tom Hardy as Spider Man’s rival, is rated PG-13 in the United States. That’s just too kid-friendly for long-term fans of the character, who wanted something much darker for this new incarnation. Hardy doesn’t seem to mind though. In fact, he got most of his direction from his 10-year-old son, who knew far more about Venom than he did. You can read more about that HERE, or would you rather just see Venom EARLY and FOR FREE? Click HERE to grab your passes if so, then watch the trailer below. And HOLY COW Venom looks SCARY to me! Even with that PG-13 rating!
Years ago, I posted a blanket request for Good Books to Read on social media. Someone suggested The Goldfinch, which I picked up and hated so much that I actually started reading The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt before I even finished it. I loved that book, because it was funny, but also because it felt like something horrible could happen at any minute, like a Tarantino flick. They managed to capture that tone with the cast for The Sisters Brothers movie, including Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly, Jake Gyllenhaal and, holy crap, Rutger Hauer! So, feel like seeing The Sisters Brothers EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
I know it’s a little late but here’s the latest Julie Says So MOVIE MINUTE featuring my review of The Nun. What were you up to at 15? I think I was probably prank-calling friends, looking for parties and doing as little homework as humanly possible. Richard Wershe Jr., on the other hand, was a drug-kingpin and FBI informant by the time he turned 15. Makes you feel kind of lazy doesn’t? Richard Wershe Jr. is also the subject of the new movie White Boy Rick, which hits theaters September 14th. Newcomer Richie Merritt plays young Richard Wershe, while Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey plays his Dad, who was also a dealer. I actually love it when McConaughey plays strung-out, so who wants to see White Boy Rick with me, EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
I was on Good Morning Texas today, telling everyone what movies they should see in the following weeks. I always love talking to Jane McGarry and Alanna Sarabia and if you listen carefully, you’ll hear me cluck like a chicken at them for freaking out over The Nun. I also promised to post the trailer for The Nun that YouTube pulled for being TOO SCARY. Click HERE to watch that but BE WARNED! You should probably avoid it if you have a weak heart…or bladder.
Click HERE if you’d rather just watch the Good Morning Texas segment, and remember to check my FREE MOVIE PASSES page to see what kind of goodies I’m giving away. Also check the links below for movie trailers and tickets! Continue reading →
Oh, to get in on this glamorous Girl Club. A Simple Favor stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as brand new gal-pals, but things get dark when one of them goes missing. Surprisingly dark, considering this is from director Paul Feig, who also brought us Bridesmaids and one of my personal favorites, Spy. So, wanna see A Simple Favor EARLY and FOR FREE? Here’s the latest Julie Says So MOVIE MINUTE featuring my review of Crazy Rich Asians. I’ve also got some FREE MOVIE PASSES & the TOP 5 MOVIES to see now, plus a HOTTEST NEW TRAILER featuring Viggo Mortenson and Mahershala Ali that looks phenomenal! Huge thanks to ON-AIR MEDIA for all their hard work!
My 14-year-old read Crazy Rich Asians this summer and is already griping about how the movie is different from the book. How does she know? I have no idea. Something about the trailer but who cares if you can see it EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
