See “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” EARLY & FOR FREE

There are few things my family can agree on when we’re watching TV together. We usually just sit in front of the TV and fight until the news comes on, unless we find Bob’s Burgers. When that happens, everyone goes quiet and a joint decision is made: Bob’s it is. Of course, the debate starts once again when the 30 minute episode ends but that won’t happen during The Bob’s Burgers Movie because it’s a solid hour and 42 minutes long.

RAPID REVIEW: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (Plus a Parent Review)

Doctor Stephen Strange has his hands full in this installment, straightening out the multiverse-mess he caused in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Strange also has to protect a multiverse-jumping new character, America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez) from an evil Scarlett Witch, all while delivering one-liners and his version of a Blue Steel side-eye. Toss that with constantly shifting realities and mind-blowing special effects and well…it’s a LOT.

See “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” EARLY & FOR FREE

It’s been six years since the first Doctor Strange movie, thanks to Covid and a change in directors (Sam Raimi took over when Scott Derrickson left the film). Now we’re hearing about some last minute reshoots at Marvel‘s request, so it’s hard to know WHAT to expect from this trip into the multiverse. All the more reason to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness EARLY and FOR FREE. Even better, I have passes to free screenings all over Texas!

Rapid Review: “The Northman”

The Northman stars Alexander Skarsgård as Amleth, a Viking who hopes to avenge the murder of his father, the King (Ethan Hawke). He also plans to save his mother (Nicole Kidman), who has been forced to marry the murderer, also the King’s brother. Along the way Amleth meets a beautiful witch (Anya Taylor-Joy), who offers him a brighter and less-deadly path in life. It’s the same Scandinavian legend that inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and it could’ve seemd too familiar in another director’s hands.  Fortunately, Robert Eggers is steering this ship so The Northman is consistently fresh, even during its grimiest, blood-bath battles (of which there are many).

See “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” EARLY & FOR FREE

If you’ve been anywhere near me in the past month, you know how excited I am about The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Nicholas Cage plays himself in this film, or at least a version of himself named “Nick Cage.” He was absolutely horrified when he first learned of this project (read about his initial “f-no” response HERE) but, fortunately for us, he eventually saw the magic in it.

JSS: April Movies to Get PSYCHED About

Hollywood is struggling to figure out what will get people back into theaters so this month, we’ll see a hodgepodge of new releases. Will high-octane action-flicks sell tickets, mind-bending indie comedies or possibly live-action video games? It’s hard to tell but I was just on Good Morning Texas (watch the segment HERE) sharing the films I think have the best shot.

See “The Northman” EARLY & FOR FREE

I truly enjoyed The Witch and The Lighthouse (which is far better if you think of it as a dark-comedy) so I’m excited to see the latest from director Robert Eggers, The Northman. This one stars Alexander Skarsgård as a Viking who must avenge his father’s death with the help of a lovely witch (played by Anya Taylor-Joy). Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe also star and those last two share a nude scene. If you’re thinking, “Is that supposed to be a selling-point?” I don’t really know but I do have passes to see The Northman EARLY and FOR FREE.
