I was completely blown away by the first Creed. Not give-Sylvester-Stallone-an-Oscar-right-now blown away, but I DO remember having all the tingly-feels that I got from the original Rocky. I suspect Creed II will offer the same type of excitement because, this time Adonis has to battle Viktor Drago. YES, that’s Ivan Drago’s son from Rocky IV, and Dolph Lundgren is even IN this movie! So, who wants to see Creed II EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a crucial mission. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower. But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen. That’s when Overlord becomes less of a war-movie and more of a grindhouse horror flick. So who wants to see Overlord EARLY & FOR FREE? Continue reading →
Maybe it seemed like a great idea to release The Front Runner during the mid-term elections. What better time to tell a story about squandered political promise? Those in charge probably didn’t think about the nonstop political ads we’ve been force-fed lately or the fact that some people will want to crawl into a hole and live there after November 6th. Well, push that political-malaise aside and remember that Hugh Jackman plays Gary Hart. We love that guy so much, we even forgave his version of P.T. Barnum. The Front Runner is also from Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air, Tully), so he’s bound to do something twisty and revealing with the story, right? Well, it won’t matter either way if you see The Front Runner EARLY and FOR FREE! Continue reading →
If you watched the Emmy’s recently and were bummed that Tiffany Haddish didn’t show up in her white Alexander McQueen dress, I’ve got news for you! She actually wears it a fifth time in her new movie, Nobody’s Fool (click HERE if you don’t know the story behind that dress). Haddish stars as an ex-con who gets out of prison and reunites with her sister, played by Tika Sumpter. It’s the latest from Tyler Perry and also stars Whoopi Goldberg, so who wants to see Nobody’s Fool EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
I’ll never forget the first time I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and that one particular scene. I wasn’t enjoying the book and had only picked it up again because my hair-dresser insisted.
“Just wait until she gets her revenge,” he said. “You’re gonna lose it!”
He wasn’t kidding. I was on the elliptical at the gym when I came to that part. I remember it clearly because I yelled “HOLY SH*T,” then sat on the floor while I re-read the passage a handful of times.
I loved both versions of the movie (and both versions of Lisbeth Salander) but I never quite recovered from that.
We have a new Lisbeth in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, since Claire Foy has taken over (she’s already getting great reviews). Sverrir Gudnason is our new Mikael Blomkvist (I’ll miss Daniel Craig) and Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) is now directing instead of David Fincher. Yes, we have a whole new crew at the wheel so who wants to see The Girl in the Spider’s Web EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
People occasionally complain about my Free Movie Passes because the screenings are in a town that’s too far away from them. That hopefully won’t be the case for Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, because THIS TIME I have passes to two different screenings! If you’d like to see The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Continue reading →
Those of us who were sad when Melissa McCarthy didn’t get an Oscar nomination for Bridesmaids (yeah, I know it was a stretch) might have our wishes granted this year, thanks to Can You Ever Forgive Me. McCarthy stars as real-life biographer Lee Israel, who gained fame in the 1970’s by writing books about celebrities. She turned to deception when funds ran low and wound up in the middle of her own scandal. Can You Ever Forgive Me is already on this year’s Oscars short-list, with Melissa McCarthy a top pick for Best Actress! Pretty exciting, right? Now you really want to see Can You Ever Forgive Me EARLY and FOR FREE, don’t you? Continue reading →
I’ll talk about the Bohemian Rhapsody screening in a minute, but first I want to tell you a little story.
I actually learned about homosexuality through the band Queen.
It happened when I was around seven-years-old and listening to “We Will Rock You” at a friend’s house. I was staring at that creepy News of the World album cover when my friend said, “You know how Queen got their name, don’t you?”
I didn’t, of course, so she explained to me that some men preferred other men over women, and that some women were the same way. She never used the word “homosexuality,” and really didn’t go into much detail, but my small mind was blown.
It didn’t change how I felt about the band, and my love for Freddie Mercury grew exponentially as years passed. Because of Queen, homosexuality was less about sexual preference to young-me, and represented someone whose difference made their light shine even brighter than the rest.
I think Freddie Mercury would’ve appreciated that.

Hope you’ve got your Halloween costumes all lined up because there’s a fantastic screening of Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween coming up this weekend! The Alamo Drafthouse Lake Highlands is hosting a FREE SCREENING this Saturday, but they’ll play Halloween party-games with the kids beforehand (so bring them in costume). You’ll need passes to get in FOR FREE Continue reading →
I’ve watched the trailer for Bad Times at the El Royale a handful of times now and I still can’t figure out what’s going on. It’s hard to worry about a cast that’s THIS GOOD, though. You’ve got Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman and Chris Hemsworth, who’s apparently forgotten how to button a shirt (not complaining, just noting). Dakota Johnson’s in the mix too and, as I’ve stated a few times already, she’s vastly underrated as an actress. Bad Times at the El Royale is also from Writer/Director Drew Goddard, who’s responsible for mind-benders like Cabin in the Woods, Cloverfield and several episodes of Lost. I think this is the type of movie that you learn as little as possible about before seeing it. Even better, how would you like to see it EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →
