FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Lights Out” ON ME!

Two years ago, director David Sandberg released a short film called Lights Out. The movie, which starred his wife Lotta Losten as a woman who is plagued by a figure in her darkened hallway, took social media by storm. I remember watching it at work and blurting out obscenities as the lights went out. If you’ve never seen it before, take the mere 2:42 required to watch it below. Believe me, it’s worth it.

Now you understand why Lights Out has been viewed over 12 million times around the world, right? They OBVIOUSLY had to make a full-length movie out of it but here’s the big surprise…

IT’S ACTUALLY GOOD!

In fact, the big screen version of Lights Out, which stars Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies, The Choice) and Billy Burke from Twilight, is currently trending at 100% on the Film Critics website Rotten Tomatoes. Even better, I have passes to see it EARLY and FOR FREE so grab those by clicking HERE, then watch the Lights Out trailer below. Dammit, I might not ever sleep AGAIN!

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See Steven Spielberg’s “The BFG” on Me!

Did you realize that The BFG was written by Roald Dahl, directed by Steven Spielberg and released by Disney?

That has to be one of strongest Film Trifectas I’ve ever heard of!

It stars Oscar winner Mark Rylance as a giant who befriends a lonely young girl and brings her to his home in Giant Country. It’s not entirely safe though, because the other giants prefer to eat people. Can their friendship survive, as the other giants become increasingly more dangerous? How can they warn the rest of the world about giants, when no one else believes in them?

The BFG opens in theaters July 1st, which would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday, but you can see it EARLY and FOR FREE! Just click HERE, then watch the trailer below. Oh dear, it’s probably not a good sign that I just cried through THAT.

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Central Intelligence” On ME!

The ads for Central Intelligence say that sometimes you need a little Hart and a BIG Johnson. Makes you wonder if they didn’t just make the whole movie around that joke, right?

Well, the pairing of Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson certainly has fans excited, and so does the trailer featuring a pudgy, teenage version of “The Rock.” That might be worth the ticket price alone but lucky for us, we don’t have to pay for tickets! Just click HERE to snag your Central Intelligence passes, then watch the trailer again. And remember to get to the theater early! These will get you in for free but you’ll still need to get there in time to save your seat.

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” On ME!

Mike and Dave (Adam Devine & Zac Efron) are going to a wedding in Hawaii but they need dates. They place an online ad that goes viral and end up with dates who party even harder than they do. It doesn’t sound like much of a premise, but throw in the fact that their dates are played by real-life buddies Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick, and I AM THERE.

Even better, I have passes to Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates so we get to see it FOR FREE! Click HERE to grab those, then watch the trailer below. Man, I want to be real-life-buddies with those chicks, too!

Did I just scream out loud? Also, did I just pee a little?

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “The Conjuring 2” On Me! (Not literally. You can’t sit in my lap if you’re scared.)

See the image above? I saw that for the first time a few months ago, when I saw The Conjuring 2 trailer in the theater. I honestly screamed out loud when that dude came out of the wall. No one else around me screamed because no one else was really paying attention. I, on the other hand, was rapt.

See, I LOVED the first Conjuring. It’s easily in my Top 5 List of Scary Movies and probably in my Top 10 Favorites of All Time, if you forced me to make one. I’m a sucker for any ghost story that’s BASED ON ACTUAL EVENTS, plus Director James Wan has such a delicate touch with these films, they actually feel REAL.

This is why you probably shouldn’t sit anywhere near me during The Conjuring 2. NO, I’m going to scream and flail and probably yell out a healthy dose of profanity in the process. It will be highly embarrassing for us all but you should STILL get free passes to see The Conjuring 2. Do that by clicking HERE, then watch the trailer below. On second thought, maybe you should sit right next to me. And hold my hand!

THANK YOU for “Alice Through the Looking Glass”

I just wanted to send a gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who made last night’s screening of Alice Through the Looking Glass happen. We had such a great time and I loved seeing everyone who came out.

First, I have to thank The Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson for showing the movie and for making those lovely cocktails for us. I think the biggest hit of the night had to be the massive EAT ME cookies. I even saw a few people shoving extras in their purses!

Thank you also to OPI and Urban Decay for the nail polishes and make-up they gave to us as party favors. That blue nail polish will go fast in my house!

HUGE thanks also to Disney and to Jenna Doran from Susan Jacobs, Inc. for making this happen. I should also thank Raymond Garcia for being there to help and for looking adorable, like usual. Most importantly, THANK YOU to everyone who came to see Alice Through the Looking Glass and to hang out with us! I hope you enjoyed it and the whole night as much as we did!

Don’t forget that Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in theaters May 26th!

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Love & Friendship” On Me!

Let me just go ahead and admit to being a bit in love with Kate Beckinsale. She’s smart (left Oxford so she could focus on acting), she’s a poet (won awards for poetry she wrote as a child), and she’s a badass mom to a 17-year-old girl. In fact, when Beckinsale was asked about hugging her ex-boyfriend, Michael Sheen’s NEW girlfriend Sarah Silverman, this is what Kate said:

“She’s such a great woman. For your kids, you want obviously to be the best parent you can possibly be, but it’s really important that — especially girls — have other women in their lives that aren’t you that also bring to the table intelligence and wit and balls and all that stuff.”

Amen to THAT!

Kate is starring in the new movie Love & Friendship, which is based on a novel Jane Austen wrote when she was only 20. In fact, it wasn’t even published until after her death. In it, Beckinsale plays the devious Lady Susan, who manipulates society to ensure a proper marriage for her daughter and to pad her finances. Sooo Austen, isn’t it? Love and Friendship also has film critics breathlessly giggling over how captivating, witty and charming it is. All those descriptive words that only film critics use, and guess who has free passes?

I DO!

Even better, these are Run Of Engagement passes, which means you can see Love & Friendship at a time that works for you (Monday-Thursday at the Angelika in Plano, please). I have 4 pairs of passes, so the first 4 people who ask for them in the Comments section below can have them. Now, take a moment to watch the Love & Friendship trailer below. Oh dear GOD, she really is adorable!

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Mother’s Day” On Me!

I worked with a man many moons ago who didn’t buy Mother’s Day gifts for his wife. He said he didn’t have to because she wasn’t his mother. He also didn’t think the fact that she’d given birth to his two daughters counted.

I still get pissed off when I think about that guy.

Hopefully you’re not married to that dude or someone like him and if you are, I have a Mother’s Day gift for YOU. Better yet, you don’t even have to be a MOM to take advantage of it.

I have free passes to see the new movie Mother’s Day, starring Julia Roberts, Jennifer Anniston and Kate Hudson. Now, this isn’t the Mother’s Day that came out in 2010, which is a home-invasion slasher-flick starring Rebecca De Mornay. No, this Mother’s Day isn’t stabby like that one, but it does poke fun at the difficult relationships we have with our MOMS. Get your free passes by clicking HERE, then take a minute to watch the trailer below. You know, you could bring YOUR Mom to the screening and make that her Mother’s Day present…if you’re cheap like me. I promise I won’t tell her!

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Everybody Wants Some!!” On Me

It’s been called the follow-up to Dazed and Confused, but director Richard Linklater says it’s more of a “spiritual sequel.” Everybody Wants Some!! follows a group of college baseball players as they prepare for the 1980 school year. Wait, that’s not entirely true. They basically drink and screw their way through the days leading up to class and it is a blast to watch! Everybody Wants Some!! stars Blake Jenner, Glen Powell, Wyatt Russell and more cute boys in shorty-shorts than I have time to list right now. It opens nationwide April 8th but, since you’re lucky and know me, you get to see it early and for free! Click HERE to snag your passes to see Everybody Wants Some!! then watch the trailer below. Man, why WERE the shorts so short back then?

MOVIE REVIEWS: “10 Cloverfield Lane” “The Brothers Grimsby” & “Hello, My Name is Doris”

I spent most of this week at the beach, enjoying the view above so I sadly didn’t get to see any movies. I was still really excited to hear about two in particular though, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest comedy, The Brothers Grimsby. I can’t tell you how furious I was when the first review I clicked on (in Variety, to be specific) gave away ALL OF THE MAJOR SECRETS IN 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE! I mean, he just BLABBED about everything in his first paragraph so it’s essentially ruined for me. Hopefully that hasn’t happened to YOU because I found an excellent spoiler free review on www.BigFanboy.com by Ronnie Malik. You can read that by clicking HERE.
cloverfieldlane-poster

I’m sad to say that the reviews of The Brothers Grimsby aren’t quite as glowing. Critics universally agree that it sucks, though I feel Sacha Baron Cohen deserves some credit for those side-burns. I’m sharing the New York Times review from Manohla Dargis, because of this quote…which is awesome: “While there may be comedy gold in an elephant’s vagina, Mr. Cohen fails to find it here.” You can read the rest of her review by clicking HERE.
