Brooklyn-2015-3

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See the Oscar-Buzzy “Brooklyn” On Me!

I have a friend who likes to say, “They don’t make movies with GOOD STORIES these days. No one makes Seabiscuit anymore!” While I don’t totally agree with him, I know he’s not the only person who feels that way. That’s why everyone’s going to be super excited about Brooklyn, which opens nationwide on Friday, November 20th. That’s the same weekend that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 comes out so it would be easy to overlook Brooklyn. DON’T DO THAT because it’s already one of highest reviewed films of the year. Some critics are even saying that it’s impossible to NOT like Brooklyn, which almost sounds like a challenge, doesn’t it?

Brooklyn tells the story of a young, Irish immigrant who lands in 1950’s New York. She finds happiness and love but soon has important, life-altering choices to make. Saoirse Ronan plays Ellis, the young immigrant and the rumor mill says she’s guaranteed an Oscar nomination for this role. Guess I’ll have to learn how to pronounce her name after all.

The best part of all of this is that I have free passes to see Brooklyn so you can STILL save your ticket money for Katniss! Just click HERE for those, then take a minute to watch the trailer. Dammit, I’m already weepy!

FILM STILL - OUR BRAND IS CRISIS

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Our Brand Is Crisis” for FREE!

I’m pretty sure that, given the chance, Sandra Bullock and I would be BEST FRIENDS.

I can just imagine her coming over to my house, where we’d play UNO and talk about boys while our kids played basketball in the driveway. Maybe I’d open some wine and she’d braid my hair while we prank called Melissa McCarthy. Then we’d watch Love Potion #9 together and she’d tell me all about the celebrities she’s slept with and rate their performance.

What? Did I make it weird?

Well, it doesn’t matter because the closest any of us will be getting to Sandra Bullock is when her next movie, Our Brand Is Crisis comes out October 30th. Bullock plays a political strategist who retires due to a scandal, then returns to fight her nemesis, played by Billy Bob Thornton.

The cool thing about Our Brand Is Crisis is that George Clooney produced it and was supposed to play the main character. He gave it to Sandy instead when she told him how frustrated she was about the lack of solid female roles. That’s a pretty cool friend, isn’t it? I wonder if those two have ever hooked up? Am I making it weird again?

Well, I have free passes to see Our Brand Is Crisis at the Angelika in Dallas next week. Just click HERE to snag those and don’t forget to show up a little early in case there’s a line. I’ll be there too, so maybe WE can braid each other’s hair and talk about boys. Ooo, and do YOU have Melissa McCarthy’s phone number? Because I’d REALLY like to prank call her.

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See Oscar Contender “Room” With It’s Author!

Room stars Brie Larson as a woman who is held captive in a 10-by-10 foot space with her young son. She does everything she can to help him lead a normal life, until the day they try to escape. This brings mother and son to the biggest challenge they’ve ever faced: the outside world.

Room is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, written by Emma Donoghue. It’s a work of fiction, but Donoghue based her book on the harrowing true stories of Jaycee Dugard and Elisabeth Fritzi. Both of these women were kidnapped and held in hidden rooms for years. They were also repeatedly raped and eventually gave birth while still in captivity.

The big screen version of Room is already getting Oscar buzz, specifically for Brie Larson’s performance. It also won the Toronto International Film Festival this year, which has a history of picking Academy Award Best Picture contenders. There’s even a fair amount of Oscar chatter for young Jacob Tremblay, who plays the movie’s 5-year-old boy.

Best of all, I have free passes to see Room and guess who’ll be sitting in the audience with you? Author Emma Donoghue will be at the screening too, so make sure you stick around for the Q&A after the movie. Take a minute to watch the trailer, then print out your pass to get in. You should probably bring some tissues too because this one looks like a weeper!

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Pan” Starring Hugh Jackman

Pan is the big-screen origin story of Peter Pan, which promises to explain how he came to Neverland in the first place. If you’re anything like my daughters and I, you’ve been WAITING for this movie for what seems like AGES. It was sometime last year when we first saw the Pan trailer and excitedly whispered “WE HAVE TO SEE THAT,” to each other. The release date was repeatedly pushed back (not usually a good sign) but Pan is finally coming to theaters October 9th. You get to see it before everyone else though and for FREE because you know ME! Just click HERE to grab your passes and then watch the trailer below. Oooo, and who is that foxy, young Captain Hook???

(This site is funded by the ads that it runs. If you see something you like, please click on it. Sorry but a girl’s gotta eat.)

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Sleeping With Other People” On Me!

This is kind of a dreadful time of year, isn’t it? Summer is OVER but it’s still hot and doesn’t feel like FALL yet. Kids are grouchy about back-to-school homework and parents are even grouchier about helping them with it. New TV shows have yet to start and though we keep seeing ads for GREAT NEW MOVIES, none of them are in theaters yet. Fortunately, that’s all about to change because I HAVE FREE MOVIE PASSES! You can see Sleeping with Other People, starring Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie as college f-buddies who reconnect at a meeting for Sex Addicts. It’s produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and is being compared to When Harry Met Sally, but with lots of racy sex scenes. Sounds like a great way to kill that pre-Fall boredom and get out of the house, right? Even better, the screening is at the Angelika in Dallas on September 23rd, so we can get drinks in the bar beforehand! Print out the pass below to get you and a buddy in for free and I’ll see you there! Just don’t touch me during those intense sex scenes or things will get really awkward.

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “American Ultra” with Me for FREE!

You might think that the whole Sleeper-Super-Agent idea but has been done to death, but Hollywood found a legitimate way to update it. What if the Sleeper-Agent in question grew up to be a slacker-stoner who lived with his girlfriend and smoked out all day? Jesse Eisenberg plays Mike, who works at a convienent store until the day he is activated. Imagine his surprise when he discovers he’s a deadly weapon who can kill people with little more than a spoon. Kristen Stewart plays his girlfriend Phoebe, who has to call on her own inner-tough-girl to help Mike survive when he becomes the target.

I can’t help but get excited about this because I’ve loved Jesse Eisenberg since Zombieland. I also relish any moment that Kristen Steward seems likeable. Sorry but I couldn’t stand her as “Bella.” I always wonder if the reason everyone hates Stewart so much is because “Bella” was such a crappy character. Maybe she’s awesome in real life but was simply forced to play an awful role for too long. Well, it’s not like she and I will have a “Girls Night” anytime soon so I guess I’ll never know.

The point I’m trying very poorly to make is that I have free passes to see American Ultra next week! Click HERE for those and then take a minute to watch the trailer. See you at the screening and I’ll let you know if that Julie/Kristen Date-Night happens anythime soon.

FREE MOVIES PASSES: Meryl Streep Gets Sexy in “Ricki & The Flash”

I’ve been scratching my head ever since I saw the Ricki and The Flash movie poster. Meryl Streep as an aging rock star? Seriously? Then again, she looks incredible in that get-up and I LOVE it when she plays sexy. It’s also directed by Jonathan Demme and has a screenplay written by our favorite former-stripper, Diablo Cody. If that isn’t enough, Meryl is joined onscreen by her real-life daughter, Mamie Gummer, who plays her daughter of course. The cast also includes Rick Springfield (who has been CRAZY CREEPY on True Detective this season) and Kevin Kline so we HAVE to see it, right? Even better, I have free passes for a screening on August 4th at the Angelika in Dallas! Click HERE for those, then watch the trailer below and get all excited about seeing it!

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “San Andreas” On Me!

I interviewed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson years ago when he came through Dallas to promote The Mummy Returns. He is GIGANTIC and surprisingly cute and cuddly. He hugged me. Like one of those pick-you-up-and-SQUEEZE-you hugs. THEN he kissed me on the cheek. He did the same thing to just about every other woman in the office and was equally as loveable with all the dudes. That is why I will always have a bit of a thing for The Rock and am excited about seeing San Andreas next week. I’ve seen the trailers and it’s just the kind of squirm-in-your-seat blockbuster that will get us all pumped about summer. Continue reading →
