MOVIE REVIEWS: Does “Justice League” Offer DC Redemption?

The one massive downside to all of these superhero movies is that, after a while, they all start to look the same.
Even the characters are interchangeable: Batman is the money/gadget guy (Iron Man) while Aquaman is the rebellious God (Thor). The Flash is the joke-cracking youngster (Spiderman), Cyborg is the half man, half something-else-entirely (The Hulk) and, of course, Wonder Woman is the beacon of goodness (Captain America). This doesn’t mean that Justice League is a bad movie. I don’t think it could be BAD with this cast and this much material (introducing the League, fighting evil AND mourning a dead Superman). No, Justice League isn’t a bad movie but it does feel awfully familiar. It also highlights a huge difference in the way Marvel and DC tell their stories and why the Marvel films are consistently stronger: Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Justice League” EARLY & FOR FREE

Is it weird that I don’t really CARE if the new Justice League movie is good? My expectations are so low now, after Batman v. Superman and then the shocking let-down that was Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman was a refreshing surprise, but I don’t know if she and that golden-lasso are strong enough to save this whole movie. Jason Mamoa plays Aquaman in Justice League though and, if I were completely honest with you, I’d probably say that’s enough for me. It’s always better to see a potentially disappointing movie for free though, right? Continue reading →

MOMMY-MOVIE-REVIEW: What Can You Expect From “Wonder Woman”

You’ve probably heard by now that Wonder Woman is a good movie. Better than good. In fact, I gave it an A, which is a grade I don’t readily hand out. Director Patty Jenkins finally delivered a proper superhero flick to DC, but the next big question PARENTS will ask is, “Can my KIDS see Wonder Woman?”

There are a handful of factors to consider before taking your youngsters, so let me break them down for you. Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Wonder Woman” EARLY & FOR FREE

I always say that lowered expectations are a movie’s best friend, but Wonder Woman is making that next to impossible for me. How am I supposed to keep my cool about the first female superhero movie since 2005 (that was Elektra), which just happens to be directed by a woman (Patty Jenkins, who also directed Monster)? I’m also a huge fan of Gal Gadot, who is taking on the role of Diana in this origin story. Gadot is so much more than a pretty face, having served as a combat trainer in the Israel Defense Forces. She performs most of her own stunts, is a motorcycle enthusiast and is the mother of two little girls. Both of Gal Gadot’s grandparents are Holocaust survivors as well, so the mantle of Superhero seems all the more fitting.
My daughters are also pumped about Wonder Woman, having never seen a superhero movie about a GIRL in their lives. I’d say it’s about time. So, who wants passes to see Wonder Woman EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →

Discussing OCTOBER MOVIES on “Good Morning Texas”

I joined Jane McGarry on Good Morning Texas today to talk about all the big October Movies we have to look forward to. We chatted about Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and how I have an awful Girl Crush on his co-star, Cobie Smulders. We also talked about Jon Hamm in Keeping Up With the Joneses and some scary flicks that are coming out just in time for Halloween. Click HERE to watch the segment, then head over to my Free Movie Passes page to see what’s up for grabs. Remember to subscribe to the website so you’ll never miss a free movie!

Free Passes. Keeping Up With The Joneses

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Keeping Up with the Joneses” ON ME!

Those of us who didn’t get enough Gal Gadot in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are in luck. She’s back in Keeping Up with the Joneses and she brought along Jon Hamm, another face we haven’t seen enough of lately.

Keeping Up with the Joneses stars Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher as a suburban couple whose new neighbors are the impossibly stylish Gadot and Hamm. Are they really that perfect, or do the Joneses have something to hide? Well, you already know the answer to that.

If you’d like free passes to see Keeping Up with the Jonese, just click HERE, then watch the trailer below. And check out Zach Galifianakis, who lost over 50 pounds before filming this movie! I honestly didn’t even recognize him at first!

PODCAST: My “Batman v Superman” Review on Jagger Mornings (102.1 the Edge)

Jagger had me on 102.1 the Edge today to discuss Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and…well, it got ugly. I got angry, started ranting and the BLEEP button was used. Often. Sorry about that but it tends to happen any time I try to talk about this movie. Thanks again to Jagger and Josh for having me on and next time, I’ll try to keep it in check.

MOMMY-MOVIE-REVIEW: Is “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” OK For My Kids?

It’s funny how ALL kids today (not just the comic-book readers) are interested in superheroes. Maybe it’s because of the Avengers, or maybe it’s thanks to the nonstop commercials that run during their favorite Disney shows. Whatever the reason, it can put parents in a tight spot when their kids want to see violent, PG-13 films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. My own daughters have already been asking to see it, though they aren’t nearly as invested in these characters as they are Thor and Captain America.

There are several pros and cons to Batman v Superman, but the first and foremost is that it’s simply NOT a good movie. Continue reading →

PODCAST: “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” Review (w/ a healthy dose of profanity)

Rebekah Black and I saw Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last night, then recorded our thoughts about it. I don’t want to give anything away, but we got pretty worked up and eventually started peppering the review with our favorite swear words. That’s why you probably shouldn’t listen to this around your kids and if you listen at work, turn it down REALLY low. Enjoy!

TRAILER PORN: “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” EXCLUSIVE SNEAK

Are you even capable of being excited about anything other than Star Wars: The Force Awakens right now? I get it. I feel the exact same way but they’re releasing a new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice tonight and it’s hard NOT to get a little jazzed about it (Yes, even IF you’re still pissed at Ben Affleck for the whole nanny thing). That’s going to air on Jimmy Kimmel Live at 11:35/10:35 Central and they even made an exclusive sneak to get us pumped. It doesn’t show Wonder Woman though, so I don’t think it really counts.

Catch the full NEW trailer tonight and if you somehow missed the full-length Comic-Con trailer, take a little look at THIS:
