Did you know that Barry Jenkins has another movie coming out? Yes, the man who tore our hearts out with Moonlight has another film opening just in time for Oscar season, and this one is based on a novel by the extraordinary James Baldwin. If Beale Street Could Talk tells the story of a young couple in the 1970s who fall victim to a broken criminal justice system. I’ve seen this one and can tell you that it is packed with some of the best performances of the year (Regina King is my personal favorite as the family matriarch, and I love anything that Brian Tyree Henry does). If Beale Street Could Talk will almost certainly be part of the Oscar-conversation this year too, and it was just nominated for three Golden Globes. Free Movie Passes: See “Fences” EARLY & FOR FREE

You probably know that Fences has already been nominated for 2 Golden Globes. Denzel Washington (who also directed it) got a Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama nod, while Viola Davis was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. That’s great, but did you know that Fences has already won a Pulitzer Prize? See, playwright August Wilson originally brought it to the stage in 1983, and Fences went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1987, as well as a Tony Award for Best Play.
