The new Shazam! has been compared to Big and Superman, but I would go with more modern comparisons like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Deadpool (minus the filth). I might even say that Shazam! is DC’s first attempt at a Marvel movie, but I don’t feel like reading all the resulting hate-mail, so scratch that. Instead, I’ll say that Shazam! is one of the most heartfelt and refreshing superhero films from DC yet, and that my daughters and I loved it enough to give it an A.
