Did you know that Barry Jenkins has another movie coming out? Yes, the man who tore our hearts out with Moonlight has another film opening just in time for Oscar season, and this one is based on a novel by the extraordinary James Baldwin. If Beale Street Could Talk tells the story of a young couple in the 1970s who fall victim to a broken criminal justice system. I’ve seen this one and can tell you that it is packed with some of the best performances of the year (Regina King is my personal favorite as the family matriarch, and I love anything that Brian Tyree Henry does). If Beale Street Could Talk will almost certainly be part of the Oscar-conversation this year too, and it was just nominated for three Golden Globes. Top 5 Movies to See in FEBRUARY
Is it just me or did January suck? I’m biased because I’ve been dealing with a sick kid all week AND I am watching a man install a new hot-water heater as I write this. The old one sprung a massive leak in the middle of the night, which is why I’m still wearing pajamas in front of the water-heater man.
What does this have to do with anything, you ask?
