FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Detroit” EARLY & FOR FREE

I’ve got it bad for Kathryn Bigelow.
Not only did she direct and co-write two of my favorite movies (The Hurt Locker & Zero Dark Thirty), she also ran against ex-husband James Cameron for the 2010 Best Director Oscar and beat him. That has to be the greatest case of revenge EVER.
I’d get behind anything Kathryn Bigelow did but her latest movie, Detroit, looks outstanding. She has re-teamed with writing partner Mark Boal, to tell the true story of the 1967 Detroit Rebellion. Bigelow also packed the cast with powerhouses like John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, Jason Mitchell and John Krasinski. She even found a spot for Hannah Murray, whom we can all agree plays an adorable Gilly in Game of Thrones. So, want to join me at an EARLY and COMPLETELY FREE screening of Detroit? Julie-Says-So “Keanu” Movie Review (DAMN, that’s a cute kitty!)

Rebekah Black and I saw Keanu (starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele) together but we had VERY different opinions about it. Listen to us hash those out while we eat tacos. Don’t worry, we chew with our mouths closed. Shout out to Velvet Taco for making our delicious lunch! Maybe they’ll give us some FREE tacos next time. Yeah, that’ll never happen.

PODCAST: Movie Chat for 1/22/16 (“The 5th Wave,” “Dirty Grandpa,” & “Son of Saul”)

This week on the Podcast, I review The 5th Wave, Dirty Grandpa and Son of Saul. I’ll also talk about the #OscarSoWhite controversy, since Straight Outta Compton is now available on DVD. I’ll also answer some emailed questions about The Martian, because people are still asking me if it’s appropriate for kids. It really all depends on your kid…and just how much you swear around them. I’d also like to share this article with Scott from Dallas, who asked if I knew how solid the science behind The Martian is. Scott, bless your little heart for assuming I’m smart enough to answer that question. Instead, here’s an interview with Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, because HE would know! http://www.cbsnews.com/news/neil-degrasse-tyson-science-behind-the-martian/
