MOVIE REVIEW: The New “Cinderella” & Cate Blanchett as the Original Mean Girl

A quick GOOGLE search will tell you that a “Cinderella Complex” describes a woman who isn’t capable of changing her bad situation. She needs to be rescued by a man. I’m very familiar with this term because my mother warned my sister and I about it when we were young. We would read the Disney Princess stories and then discuss the elaborate weddings we’d have with our own beautiful, wealthy Princes.

A Tribute to My Rock ‘n’ Roll Crush: Benjamin Orr

Benjamin Orr wasn’t my very first Rock ‘n’ Roll crush. That would be Tommy Shaw, whom I saw playing with Styx on the Grand Illusion tour. I was 6-years-old and I don’t know WHY I was at that concert, but I was transfixed by his flowing blonde locks.

Benjamin Orr of The Cars was different because I loved his voice long before I saw him. It was the early 1980s and still the golden age of RADIO, so I didn’t know what my favorite musicians looked like¬†until I saw them on “American Bandstand” or in my sister’s Teen Beat Magazine. Even then, everyone seemed focused on Ric Ocasek and his giraffe-like neck so I didn’t really SEE¬†Benjamin Orr until The Cars Drive video. I had no idea a man could be that pretty. Seriously, even prettier than Paulina Prizkova (who after a fresh viewing, was batshit crazy in that video. Never noticed THAT before either!) Continue reading →

Open Letter to My Friend Who’s Turning 40

I am so excited about celebrating your 40th Birthday this weekend, but I know you have mixed emotions. Crossing over from your 30s into your 40s isn’t exactly FUN. Believe me, anyone who says they’re excited about it is secretly crying into a bottle of vodka. There ARE some good things about turning 40 though and I would know.
