New in theaters this week is the highly anticipated sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron. If your family is like mine, this movie and whether or not my kids can see it has been a constant topic of discussion. Fortunately, I already saw the film so I can give you the low-down. Continue reading →
My youngest daughter is celebrating her First Communion this weekend and she is profoundly apathetic about it. It’s not that Lucy doesn’t appreciate wine and snacks during church. Believe me, she does. She just doesn’t quite grasp the magnitude of the occasion. I blame the veil for this.
See, I had MY First Communion in a Catholic Church where you get to wear a tiny version of a bridal veil. I was going to wear my sister’s, which had been hanging from her dresser mirror just out of my reach, for most of my life. I gazed at that veil everyday and imagined the moment I finally got to wear it. Oh, how lovely I would be! Continue reading →
I went to see Tony Zazza because he SAID he wanted to talk about the Avengers: Age of Ultron. HE LIED! Evidently, Tony had a “bone to pick” with me and boy, did he ever! I thought he might jump across the desk & stab me with a Sharpie at one point. Click HERE and go to Podcast #24 to hear what happened but WATCH OUT for that Tony Zazza. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry!
People think I’m kidding when I say it but I learned things while chaperoning Catholic School Camp last week. In fact, there’s one lesson in particular that I can’t stop thinking about.
We were praying of course (because it’s Catholic School Camp and that’s what you DO) and the Camp Couselors told us to pray for our Mentors.
“I don’t have any MENTORS,” I thought. “I’ve been doing all this stuff by MYSELF.” Continue reading →
I didn’t like superhero movies in 2012, when I went to see the first Avengers. I remember looking at my movie-buddy Rebekah Black and saying, “This is gonna suck.”
What can I say? Sometimes I’m really REALLY wrong.
We were BEYOND pumped about this new treat from Joss Whedon but also a little scared. Would it compare to the first? Would it suck so bad that we’d stop liking the Avengers altogether? What if it was so awful that even THOR lost his sex-appeal. Yeah, that’s not gonna happen but listen to the podcast to hear our thoughts.

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara have a new movie coming out called Hot Pursuit. It’s about a straight-laced cop who has to protect a sexy widow from the mafia, so it’s pretty easy to guess which actress plays which character. Witherspoon and Vergara supposedly became besties while filming this movie so I think they need one of those combination names, like Brangelina. I’m going with Rofia Witherboobs.
I have passes to a screening of Hot Pursuit next week, so click the link below if you’d like to go. It’s Wednesday night (5/6) at the AMC Northpark, which is one of my favorite theaters because they have a bar. I’ll probably be at this one too so smile & wave if you see me, but don’t ask about the flask in my purse. Sorry but those drinks get PRICEY!
We got the keys to our new house yesterday. We’re having some work done on it and the actual move-in date is weeks away but we had a celebratory toast in the empty kitchen last night. I still can’t believe it’s really happening.
See, we put our old house on the market a year ago but honestly, this move has been in the works for 7 years. We never intended to stay in Texas and discussed moving to Chicago, Atlanta, and even Denver a few times. The Chicago move almost happened but every time we got close to pulling the trigger, we chickened out. Continue reading →
I got exciting news today from Fox Searchlight Pictures about a documentary they have planned for the fall. Davis Guggenheim, who is famous for documentaries like Waiting for Superman and the Oscar winning An Inconvenient Truth, is currently working on He Named Me Malala. Continue reading →
I chaperoned my daughter’s Catholic School Camp Trip last week and hoped I’d come home with loads of stories to tell. What I returned with instead are stories I CAN’T tell because they involve kids or parents who might be angry with me for doing so. This is tearing me apart because I have tales of moms who escaped to a crawfish shack & the nicknames they made up for their favorite counselors. I have tales of little boys who pined for little girls and of one chaperone who now needs surgery from a playground game. I have stories of poker games, fish hooks & early morning vomit that are AWESOME and of children who talked, walked & even screamed in their sleep. Continue reading →
Did you know that Kevin James has a movie coming out that ISN’T Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2? Thank goodness because people HATE that movie. Maybe James thought, “I should make another movie ASAP so people won’t be so pissed at me.” His new movie is called Little Boy and it’s about a family separated during World War II and the son’s struggle to bring his Dad home. If Kevin James isn’t your thing, several other folks are involved like Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson and David Henrie! Aww, he was Justin on Wizards of Waverly Place! Wait a minute. According to IMDB.com David Henrie is in that Blart Fart 2 movie as well. That’s weird. Anyhow, I didn’t get to see Little Boy but I have some free passes to a screening this Wednesday night. Click that link below if you’re interested. I have no idea if it’s any good but seeing this one is kind of like flipping off Mall Fart 2 so GET THOSE FREE PASSES!
