MOVIE REVIEW: Rediscover The Beatles in “Yesterday”

Things simply don’t exist anymore in the world of Yesterday.
It all started the night a blackout occurred and caused struggling musician Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) to be hit by a bus. Everything in the world has progressed like normal since, but without certain iconic things…like The Beatles. Jack Malik appears to be the only person who remembers them, so he does what any struggling musician would do:
He claims those songs for his own and enjoys almost instant fame.
It doesn’t come without a price though. Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Ferdinand” EARLY & FOR FREE

Ferdinand the Bull is like a member of our family. We’ve been reading that book at bedtime since my nieces, who are now old enough to legally drink with me, were so little you couldn’t understand what they were saying (Seriously, one of them kept asking for Tah-tahs and Tagga Milk and we had NO idea what she was saying. She wanted Pop-Tarts and Chocolate Milk, of course). Now one of my nieces is reading Ferdinand to her own little girl, who can’t wait to see him on the Big Screen! And how appropriate is it that the big-scary-bull-who’s-actually-a-softie is played by John Cena? Even better, I have Family 4-Packs to give away, so you don’t have to pick a favorite kid to see the movie with! Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Rough Night” EARLY & FOR FREE

Rough Night stars Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell and Ilana Glazer and I would love a night out with any of them. Well, maybe not Scarlett Johansson. She seems like that one really hot friend who goes out with you but spends the whole night texting her boyfriend. Scarlett would sit in the corner ignoring everyone while Kate, Ilana, Jillian and Zoë planned something wild, fun, and probably illegal…like killing a stripper. BY ACCIDENT, of course! So, who wants to see Rough Night EARLY and FOR FREE? Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Office Christmas Party” EARLY & FOR FREE

Don’t we ALL have a horrible Office Christmas Party in our past? I made out with my boss at one, years ago. And someone from the morning show, later that same night. But I’m not alone, am I? Many of us have an awful Office Christmas Party in our past, which is why I’m DYING to see the movie, Office Christmas Party.

This one stars T.J. Miller, who’s branch is about to be shut down by his sister (played by Jennifer Anniston). He plans a monumental office party, in hopes of wooing a client who might save their whole company. Yes, the story sounds thin but I laughed like hell at the trailer. I even rewound it multiple times to watch that guy fall on the file cabinet again and again! You haven’t seen it? Oh GOD! OK, just click HERE to get your free passes, then watch the trailer below. DAYUMMM, that’s gotta hurt!

Movie Review Round-Up: DEEPWATER HORIZON, MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, QUEEN OF KATWE & MASTERMINDS

Feel like heading to the movies this weekend but don’t want to spend 2 hours watching something you hate? I can help with that. Here’s what’s opening this weekend and whether or not it’s worth your time.

Deepwater Horizon – This movie is completely split down the middle for me. The first half introduces us to the crew of the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, and informs us that something is horribly wrong. You won’t understand what that something horrible is (unless you have a background in drilling or maybe an Engineering Degree) and repeated attempts to explain it don’t help. Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Masterminds” ON ME!

I think I’d watch anything with Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon in it. In fact, my current idea of HEAVEN would be the two of them narrating a nonstop loop of those Tasty videos. Yeah, but only the recipes that featured lots of cream cheese and canned biscuits!

While we’re waiting for that to magically happen, we can watch Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon in Masterminds. This one also stars Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, and Zach Galifianakis as an armored-car driver who steals 17 million dollars worth of cash. If you’d like to see Masterminds EARLY and FOR FREE, just click HERE, then watch the trailer below. Man, Masterminds is based on actual events, but I hope just LOOSELY!

Everyone’s been fussing about this Ghostbusters since plans for a new one were announced. The “Julie Says So” Movie Segment Heads to TV

I started a new show this week on TXA 21. It’s called Today with Kandace and is a lifestyle show that features food and fancy stuff to do around North Texas. They asked if I’d like to talk about movies with 2001 Miss USA Kandace Krueger, and I said HECK YEAH!

Today with Kandace is prerecorded so I won’t review new movies for them, like I usually do. This will be more of a Coming Soon segment, followed by a chat about new DVDs and good films to share with your kids. This week, we covered The Big Short and Goosebumps on DVD, as well as one I’m crazy excited about, the new Ghostbusters. Check out Today with Kandace on TXA 21, weekdays at 8:30am and big thanks to Kandace for having me on! You can find the show’s website by clicking HERE.

Movies to Get Excited About in 2016

The holidays are over and it’s honestly kind of depressing, isn’t it? There’s nothing to look forward to, except that one glass of wine you get Saturday night because you’re going to lose this holiday weight, dammit!
Well, some great movies are coming out in the upcoming months. OK, I don’t know if they’re GREAT yet, but there’s enough to get mildly excited about during these snowless winter days.

January
The Revenant- 1/8
People have asked me if this movie is violent. Well, I reviewed The Revenant for WCSX in Detroit and used the words puckered bunghole to describe it. In fact, there’s a bear-attack scene that’s so intense, some people thought the bear was actually raping Leonardo DiCaprio. The Revenant is CRAZY VIOLENT, but it’s also strangely beautiful and will definitely be nominated for something. Hopefully, DiCaprio will even win an Oscar for letting that bear have its way with him.

Kung Fu Panda 3- 1/29
I liked Kung Fu Panda, but I LOVED Kung Fu Panda 2. I wasn’t expecting much from it, and the hint that Po might find his family had me openly weeping as I left the theater. I also CAN’T WAIT to see what happens to the budding relationship between Po & Tigress! Don’t judge me. Continue reading →
