Why Amy Schumer’s “I Feel Pretty” Really Pisses Me Off

You can’t win when you’re writing about Amy Schumer.
Mention her once and you’ll be bombarded with comments about the offensive things she’s said or her penchant for lifting bits from other comedians. If you don’t mention her, you’re ignoring one of the biggest names currently in comedy.
So how do you write about Amy Schumer’s new movie I Feel Pretty?
Well, I didn’t see it so I don’t actually know. I didn’t avoid it out of protest, but some boring-but-important Mom Stuff got in the way and I had to bail. My new-favorite Film Critic, Chris Jones did see I Feel Pretty though, so I posted his review below. You can skip the rest of my rant and scroll straight to that if you want, or find other Rotten Tomatoes reviews HERE.
I didn’t really want to see I Feel Pretty though, based on the message it’s trying to deliver. Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “I Feel Pretty” EARLY & FOR FREE

There’s something about this movie that bums me out profoundly. Amy Schumer stars in I Feel Pretty, about a woman who hits her head and starts believing she’s the most beautiful and capable person in the world. She, in turn, finds the happiness and success she’s always dreamed of, but what will happen when she finds out her appearance never changed? If you’d like to know what happens next, Continue reading →

MOVIE REVIEW: Just How Great IS “The Greatest Showman?”

I had several snarky thoughts when I first saw the trailer for The Greatest Showman.
Things like:
-I think I preferred this movie when it was called Moulin Rouge.
-Isn’t Hugh Jackman a little old to be playing Michelle Williams’ husband?
-Really??? Another slow-motion shot of a hot-chick dangling from the ceiling???
You get the point.
See, I have to sit through a ton of movies and I’m afraid that, after a while, many of them start to look the same.
I even warned my daughters to “keep your expectations low” when we sat down to watch The Greatest Showman, and then prepared myself to be sufficiently underwhelmed.

Man…was I wrong. Continue reading →

Top 8 Movies to See THIS WEEKEND

(OK, so I wrote this right before Thanksgiving, but the list still applies. I would only add Jackie with Natalie Portman this week, IF it happens to be playing in your town.)

What are you supposed to do with your relatives, once you’ve eaten all the food and run out of things to talk about? You GO TO THE MOVIES, of course! The sooner the better too, before anyone starts talking about politics again. Here’s my list of the Top 8 Movies to See Over Thanksgiving Weekend, which has a little something for everyone. Reviewing New Movies on “Good Morning Texas”

It isn’t easy to watch myself on TV. Sometimes, I talk too fast and forget things. Other times, I mispronounce actors’ names or use words that don’t exist. Today, I managed to do all four on Good Morning Texas, and even worked in the word “fictitional.” Nope, it’s not a word. I did, however, get to review new movies like Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Arrival, and Manchester By the Sea. I also got to talk about some upcoming flicks I’m jazzed about, like Nocturnal Animals and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Click HERE to watch the segment. Special THANKS to Pete Delkus, who joined Jane McGarry and I in our movie-chat. Sorry I went total FAN GIRL on you, Delkus!

Oscar Contenders to See this November

I can’t tell you how much I love this time of year. There’s a chill in the air (OK, not really but there’s the promise of one), PSLs are everywhere and I can no longer take my youngest to Walgreen’s because their scary Halloween decorations are out. The BEST part about this time of year though, is how the movie studios start releasing GREAT FILMS. Yes, Oscar Season is right around the corner and it’s packed with movies you currently know nothing about. Some of the films getting the most Oscar Buzz will be released next month, which is why I compiled this list of Oscar Contenders to See this November. Continue reading →

FREE MOVIE PASSES: See “Certain Women” EARLY & FOR FREE

All the talk about GENDER in Politics recently has bummed me out immeasurably. It’s even caused me to question long-held beliefs I’ve had about women and where we stand in society. This was compounded by the release of The Girl on the Train, where every female character was either drunk, insane, or various combinations of both.

That’s why I’m so relieved to see a film like Certain Women hit the scene.

This one stars Laura Dern, Michelle Williams and Kristen Stewart as three very different women whose lives intersect in a small Montana town. Certain Women has been blazing through the film-festival circuit and has even garnered a little Oscar Buzz for all of the women involved, especially newcomer Lily Gladstone. I don’t have a ton of these passes, so put your name and email address in the Comments below if you’d like to see Certain Women Tuesday, October 18th. I’ll give a pair to the first 50 people who respond, and email you directly if you win. Now, let’s take a minute to watch the Certain Women trailer below. Ahhh, not or drunk or crazy chick to be found!
