Feel like a movie but the new Joker trailers bum you out too much? Well, take a look at the new animated version of The Addams Family! Yep, they’ve revamped the story of the original goth family and filled it with amazing actors like Charlize Theron, Oscar Isaac and Finn Wolfhard. If you’d like to see The Addams Family EARLY and FOR FREE, Continue reading →
If you’re a fan of the Southern Reach book series, then you already know what Annihilation is about. If you’re like the rest of us who AREN’T familiar with the books, you’ll probably watch this trailer and think, “What tha HELL is going on here?”
Natalie Portman stars as a woman who joins a dangerous expedition in hopes of saving her husband. That’s really all I could figure out, other than there’s something that looks like a bubble over everything that’s turning people into monsters. The coolest thing about Annihilation though, is the cast. Watch the trailer below and tell me what YOU think is different about it. Then grab passes to see Annihilation EARLY and FOR FREE Continue reading →
Maybe you’re one of the people who are a little ticked off at Matt Damon right now, for any number of reasons. I get it. I’ve got a few questions of my own for him but, for some reason, that isn’t hampering my excitement for his new movie Suburbicon. Maybe it’s because this one is directed by George Clooney, which he wrote alongside Joel and Ethan Coen. Maybe it’s the addition of Oscar Isaac, because you know I’ve got a problem with him (read about that HERE). Maybe it’s because I can’t quite figure out what’s going on in the trailer. It doesn’t matter either way because now I HAVE to see Suburbicon. You’re in luck if you feel the same way because I have passes to see it EARLY and FOR FREE. Continue reading →
It’s a great weekend to rent movies because a few that got serious love at the 2016 Oscars are now available. There are also some comedies for those of you who are sick of the heavy stuff but first, let’s start with one of the heaviest.
1. You think you don’t want to see Room, but you DO. Brie Larson won the Best Actress Oscar, but little Jacob Tremblay turned in an awesome performance as well. Tremblay joked that Sylvester Stallone stole the Best Supporting Actor nomination from him, and he might be right! Click here to read my original review and seriously, don’t be afraid to rent Room.
2. Ex Machina has actually been out for ages, but it’s getting renewed buzz thanks to a recent Oscar win. Alicia Vikander won Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl, but she was just as good in this one. Ex Machina is strange, sexy and even a little scary. Plus, it has Oscar Isaac and everybody knows I have the hots for that guy. Here’s the link to the Boozy Movies Podcast we did for this film, and forgive us for repeatedly mispronouncing the name. People talk about being transported all the time, but it’s rarely something that you actually feel. I felt it today though, when I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Within 60 seconds of the film’s start, I was utterly transported back to 1977, when I saw the first film I ever truly loved. Tears sprang to my eyes and chills ran down my arms. It was delicious. I’m too old to be a fangirl.
I am a happily-married mother of 2 who gave up celebrity crushes sometime in middle school. Sure, I have my favorites (ANY scene that includes both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston is good) and I was supremely goofy when I met Michael Fassbender a few years ago. He came to a cocktail party for film critics and chatted with us like we hadn’t all just seen him naked in Shame. My hands were shaking so badly, I had to set down my wine glass.
All of that aside, I haven’t had a full-blown Celebrity Crush for YEARS…until now over Oscar Isaac. Continue reading →
I was cruising Amazon’s new releases today and realized that 2 of my FAVORITE MOVIES from 2015 are now available on DVD. Ex Machina and It Follows are BOTH out and you’ve got to see these movies. (They’ve actually been out for a while but I’ve been on a mental-vacation all summer and am just now catching up.) Ex Machina in particular is STILL in my Top 5 Movies of 2015. Here’s the Boozy Movies Podcast we did for it, if you missed it the first time. WARNING: There’s extensive talk about body-hair. Continue reading →
The band was back together this week! Richie Whitt, Sybil Summers, Rebekah Black and I saw “Ex Machina” and WOW! We were so inspired by this one that we waxed poetic like real Film Critics. Well, the Jamesons helped. Listen to the podcast and sorry about all the pubic-hair talk.
I should tell you right away that I didn’t see “Mortdecai” because I had absolutely no desire to. In fact, just looking at the movie-poster above makes me want to go throw a brick through a car window (preferrably Johnny Depp’s car window). I’ve been reading reviews on RottenTomatoes.com where “Mortdecai” is currently getting a 9% (certified ROTTEN), so it appears I didn’t miss much. My favorite comment so far came from Film Critic Robbie Collin, who called the movie “psychotically unfunny.” Here’s a link to his “Mortdecai” review, which I suspect is far better than the movie itself.
