If you stop and think about Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy as a real human being for a moment, it’s a bit overwhelming. She’s such an iconic part of our history, it’s easy to imagine her as some kind of animatronic figure in Disney’s Hall of Presidents. She was a real person though, and when you consider everything she went through, from the assassination on, it takes your breath away. Jackie tells the story of the days surrounding that event and what likely happened behind the scenes. Stephen King’s 2012 novel 11/22/63 tells the story of a time-traveler who goes back in time to stop the Kennedy assassination. If you haven’t read it already, do so because it’s a great story that asks interesting questions like How would stopping Oswald change the world? or What if it somehow made things worse? It’s also especially cool for those of us who LIVE in North Texas because King describes areas all over town. Well, his main character, Jake Epping, actually HATES Dallas but it’s still cool to read about his trip through the city and attempt to stop Lee Harvey Oswald.
J.J. Abrams is producing a mini-series based on this book for Hulu and James Franco is playing Jake Epping. They were in town this past week to film the motorcade scene and all of North Texas decided to show up. Portions of downtown Dallas were shut down for the production, which caused traffic jams and public outcry for days. I didn’t let this stop me from heading downtown, of course, because if James Franco is somewhere nearby, might as well go try to look at him. Continue reading →
