Thanksgiving

The JULIE SAYS SO Top 5 Movies to See Over Thanksgiving (& Beyond)

Thanksgiving is a great time to see family, show gratitude for the blessings in our lives, and eat until we positively hate ourselves. It’s all of those wonderful things, but Thanksgiving is also a ticking time bomb. You know it’s only a matter of time before the toxic cocktail of wine, food and years of simmering tension boil over so what should you do? Head to the movies, of course! And here’s a list of my TOP 5 MOVIES TO SEE OVER THANKSGIVING, to help you out. Continue reading →

The “Julie Says So” TOP 5 MOVIES to See Right Now

There’s a radio-host that I review movies for and every week he says the same thing:

“There’s nothing but crap in the theaters right now! When is something GOOD coming out?”

I know it isn’t BLOCKBUSTER season, but there are still some great films you shouldn’t miss seeing on the big screen. I put together a list of my Top 5 Movies to See Right Now, for those of us who want to get out of the heat and into a theater (Look, it’s still in the 90’s here in Dallas so don’t tell me about that snow you’re getting in Breckenridge, OK?). Chatting About MAY MOVIES on “Good Morning Texas”

I know what you’re asking yourself today.

What am I supposed to do AFTER I’ve seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?

Well, you could go see another movie (after you’ve seen GOTG2 a second and third time, of course). Believe it or not, there ARE other films opening this month and some of them look fantastic. I was on Good Morning Texas last week, discussing the phenomenon of movies that AREN’T Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and you can watch that by clicking HERE. I didn’t get a chance to cover every interesting movie that’s opening this month, so I made a handy list for you with links to purchase tickets. Find that below, and remember that we won’t judge if you panic and just go see that new Guardians movie again. Continue reading →

Top 5 Movies to See in FEBRUARY

Is it just me or did January suck? I’m biased because I’ve been dealing with a sick kid all week AND I am watching a man install a new hot-water heater as I write this. The old one sprung a massive leak in the middle of the night, which is why I’m still wearing pajamas in front of the water-heater man.
What does this have to do with anything, you ask?
Well, the point I’m trying unsuccessfully to make is that January sucked but February is looking UP, thanks to all the great movies that are opening. Here’s a list of my Top 5 Movies to See this month, so you won’t miss any of them. Continue reading →

Oscar Contenders to See this November

I can’t tell you how much I love this time of year. There’s a chill in the air (OK, not really but there’s the promise of one), PSLs are everywhere and I can no longer take my youngest to Walgreen’s because their scary Halloween decorations are out. The BEST part about this time of year though, is how the movie studios start releasing GREAT FILMS. Yes, Oscar Season is right around the corner and it’s packed with movies you currently know nothing about. Some of the films getting the most Oscar Buzz will be released next month, which is why I compiled this list of Oscar Contenders to See this November. Continue reading →

Movie Review Round-Up: DEEPWATER HORIZON, MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, QUEEN OF KATWE & MASTERMINDS

Feel like heading to the movies this weekend but don’t want to spend 2 hours watching something you hate? I can help with that. Here’s what’s opening this weekend and whether or not it’s worth your time.

Deepwater Horizon – This movie is completely split down the middle for me. The first half introduces us to the crew of the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, and informs us that something is horribly wrong. You won’t understand what that something horrible is (unless you have a background in drilling or maybe an Engineering Degree) and repeated attempts to explain it don’t help. Continue reading →
